Buckrop & VanDeVelde, P.C. will happily accept monthly payments toward your bankruptcy filing. Upon payment of the initial retainer you may begin referring creditors to our office. We ask that you maintain communication with us or make a payment on a monthly basis. Once your fees have been paid in full we will prepare your case to be filed.

Steps in Your Case

  • Sign and return the engagement letter, turn in documents, pay retainer fee.
    • At this point you may tell your creditors to contact our office.
  • We will prepare your case and the attorney will proof and complete the case.
  • You will receive a letter with instructions to schedule an appointment to sign your paper work. Tis will have a list of items missing and the information that you need for the credit counseling.

Items Needed to Process Your Case

  • All cases require certain information. Depending on what state you live in and what chapter you are filing there are additional requirements.
  • All cases require:
    • List of debts
    • Domestic Support Obligation Information (name, address, phone number of who you pay along with amount paid and frequency)
    • Credit Counseling Certificate (log in information will be provide when case is ready. link to DECAF
  • Illinois Chapter 7
    • IRS Tax Transcripts for the last 2 years. To obtain a transcript www.irs.gov
    • 6 months of current pay stubs or payroll summary (summary should show all deductions withheld from gross pay – you will need to keep them current until filed)
    • Last 90 days of bank statements
    • You will be required to provide your bank statements and two paystubs after filing.
  • Illinois Chapter 13
    • 2013-2017 taxes or tax transcripts, you may obtain a tax transcript at www.irs.gov
    • 6 months of current pay stubs or payroll summary (summary should show all deductions withheld from gross pay – you will need to keep them current until filed)
    • Proof of homeowners, auto and life insurance (list all beneficiaries and cash value on ALL life insurance policies)
    • Last 90 days bank statements
    • Copies of all divorce, separation or child support information (please provide case information/documentation)
  • Iowa Chapter 7
    • Latest tax return filed – Federal & State taxes or tax transcripts, you may obtain a tax transcript at www.irs.gov
    • 60 days of current pay stubs or payroll summary (summary should show all deductions withheld from gross pay – you will need to keep them current until filed)
  • Iowa Chapter 13
    • 2013-2017 taxes or tax transcripts, you may obtain a tax transcript at www.irs.gov
    • 60 days of current pay stubs or payroll summary (summary should show all deductions withheld from gross pay – you will need to keep them current until filed)
    • Last 90 days bank statements

Credit Counseling and Debtor’s Education

  • All cases require both certificates. Credit Counseling before the case can be filed. Debtor’s Education needs to be completed after case is filed and before discharge.
